Jang Pa examines entrenched notions of “painting” and “beauty” through both her visual and written practice. Her work brings renewed attention to feminized sensibilities that have been marginalized or cast as “other” within the history of painting, while advancing an expanded field of feminist subjectivity and painterly language. Engaging what has often been described as the “female grotesque,” she opens a pictorial arena in which the contours of feminine desire surface with clarity and complexity. Through this lens, Jang Pa seeks to move beyond the longstanding tendency—shaped by male-centered histories and linguistic structures—to reduce women to a singular, codified form of femininity. Instead, she imagines a broader spectrum of feminine possibilities. Jang Pa’s practice interrogates the hierarchical visual codes embedded within patriarchal systems of representation, reconstructing the body and desire not as objectified images but as agentive forms. Grounded in this approach, she cultivates a sensorial and pictorial field that allows multiple expressions of femininity to emerge, repositioning traditional painterly conventions within contemporary discourses on gender and identity.

장파는 회화와 글을 통해 ‘그림’과 ‘아름다움’에 대한 고정된 관념을 되짚어본다. 그의 작업은 회화의 역사 속에서 주변화되고 타자화된 여성적 감각을 재조명하며, 여성주의적 주체성과 회화적 언어의 확장을 탐구한다. 또한 ‘여성적 그로테스크’로 불려 온 감각의 영역을 회화의 장에서 펼쳐내어 여성적 욕망의 세계를 들여다본다. 이러한 접근을 통해 남성의 역사와 언어로 쓰여 온 여성을 단일한 여성성으로 환원해 온 방식에서 벗어나 다양한 여성성을 상상하는 가능성을 모색한다. 장파의 작업은 남성 중심적 시각 체계에 내재한 위계적 언어를 문제 삼고, 여성의 신체와 욕망을 객체화된 이미지가 아닌 주체적 형상으로 재구성한다. 이러한 기반 위에서 다양한 여성성이 드러날 수 있는 감각적·회화적 장을 마련하며, 전통적 회화 어법을 오늘의 젠더·정체성 담론 속에서 재맥락화하고자 한다.
